About
Join Reverend Dr. Dwight Andrews, Professor of Music Theory and African American Music at Emory University and pastor of First Congregational Church in Atlanta, for a special "Through a Looking Glass" pre-concert lecture.
This year marks the 250th anniversary of our nation. It is a time of both celebration and reflection. Our music is a mirror of the American experience and provides a vivid soundtrack to our shared history. Composer and Emory University professor Dr. Dwight Andrews offers a provocative presentation on how American music reflects the aspirations and ironies, continuities and contradictions of the "great American experiment." Through words and music, Dr. Andrews will discuss the intersections of concert music and jazz, spiritual traditions and blues, all of which have produced the rich and complicated cultural landscape that is American music – a sonic gumbo and feast for all!
This event is free.
