Join us for engaging, curriculum-connected learning experiences that introduce students to the power of live orchestral music.

This time-honored tradition features the full Orchestra! The all-new program, Symphony Safari, takes students on a wild adventure into the animal kingdom—exploring how instruments and animals are grouped into families based on their shared traits and sounds. This 45-minute program is crafted specifically for young audiences and includes interdisciplinary, standards-based classroom support materials.

William R. Langley

Resident Conductor and ASYO Music Director

William R. Langley currently serves as Resident Conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Staff Conductor of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and Music Director of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra. In 2009 he founded the Wolf River Chamber Orchestra and in 2011 the Memphis Repertory Orchestra. Maestro Langley led over fifty performances with the MRO during his decade-long tenure, during which the orchestra – guided by its mission to “Shape the Next Generation of Orchestral Musicians” – served as Orchestra in Residence at the Buckman Performing Arts Center.

Jessica Espinoza

Program Playwright / Producer

Jessica Rosa Espinoza is the resident playwright and producer for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's family and school concert programs. She is also the founder of Partner Learning, and specializes in collaborating with arts organizations, districts, and school communities aiming to integrate the arts. Jessica brings a unique perspective to education through her experiences teaching K-5 general education, intermediate grades in the area of fine arts, as well as pre-service teachers, in-service teachers, and working as an artist and producer.

Join trail guides Bug and Bee for an interactive, educational concert that turns the concert hall into a hiking trail. Students will pick a trail name, learn a traveling song, and explore five distinct Southern regions—each brought to life through orchestral masterpieces and playful storytelling.

HERStory is a concert celebrating female composers and female historical figures who paved the way. From voting rights to civil rights to science discovery, audiences will explore the stories of key female figures such as Susan B. Anthony, Rosa Parks, Jane Goodall, and Mae Carol Jemison. This concert integrates social studies standards and music standards as we take an interactive and musical journey through time.

Midnight with the Mockingbird: Tales of Oakland Cemetery

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra takes the audience on a musical adventure, performing symphonic favorites, including Danse Macabre and In the Hall of the Mountain King. Students will join Tweet, an Atlantan mockingbird, as they "tour" the Oakland Cemetery. From the characters Tweet meets throughout the tour, learn how composers use instruments to tell a story. This program aligns with state standards in Music, ELA, and Social Studies.
