About
Join us for these special pre-concert chamber performances in Symphony Hall featuring members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
The program begins with Mozart's Oboe Quartet in F Major which was written in early 1781 for acquaintance Friedrich Ramm to show off his virtuosity and the improvements that had been made to the oboe at that time. One way that this piece showed off the instrument was the use of the "high F" above the staff, a note rarely played in any repertoire previously written for the oboe.
Concluding the program is Dvorák's Terzetto which was originally intended as a kind of "Hausmusik" to be played by Dvorák (on viola) and two of his friends. While deeply lyrical, the piece invokes the spirit of Beethoven with the fragile, almost prayerful Larghetto movement and the fragmented theme cast in the dark key of C minor in the concluding Tema con variazioni.
These performances are open and free. Seating is on-stage with the musicians and available on a first-come first-served basis.
