ASO Performs Bach And Grieg
Music Director Nathalie Stutzmann leads the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Chorus in a concert of Bach, Brahms and Grieg on Thursday, October 9 and Friday, October 10 at 8:00pm in Symphony Hall.
The Delta Classical Series concert opens with a Bach rarity; the devotional and sparsely orchestrated Cantata No. 150, performed with the world-renowned Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chamber Chorus.
Siberian pianist Pavel Kolesnikov, a celebrated soloist performing on the world's stages, makes his Symphony Hall debut with one of classical music’s most recognized pieces, Grieg's fiery Piano Concerto. In a recent performance at Wigmore Hall, The Arts Desk noted Kolesnikov's technique "gives him total mastery and control over the extremes of loud and soft, always put to expressive ends."
Stutzmann concludes the evening with a piece inspired by J.S. Bach's Cantata No. 150, Brahms's rolling and dramatic Symphony No. 4. The composer's final symphony blends Romantic and Classical form into a deeply emotional and introspective masterwork.
