About

Join us for a special free pre-concert lecture as part of Brahms Revealed, an in-depth, season-long exploration of a master melodist and orchestral architect.

This interactive talk will explore the themes of mourning and comfort in Brahms' major breakthrough piece, A German Requiem. Composed in the 1860s, it was his first work to reach audiences throughout the German-speaking world, and it cemented his reputation as a major figure in modern music of the nineteenth century. Designed as a series of choral movements setting Biblical texts, the Requiem emphasizes warmth and consolation, reminding those who mourn for lost loved ones that healing awaits just over the horizon. By bringing together singers, instrumentalists, and audiences, the German Requiem offers peace and communal comfort in difficult times.

This FREE pre-concert lecture will take place in the Event Room across from Symphony Hall.
