About
Join the ASO for this special performance in the Johhny Mercer Theatre at the Savannah Civic Center in Savannah, GA.
Commissioned for the ASO and Maestro Spano, The Parallactic Transits invites audiences to look to the stars. "I hope to paint an image both of the stars slowly moving in our field of vision and of we ourselves, moving metadimensionally around the heavens," said the composer.
Returning this season is the explosively talented mandolin player, Avi Avital. The first mandolin soloist to be nominated for a classical Grammy® award, Avital has delighted ASO audiences in past performances, and this weekend he returns to play a brand-new mandolin concerto from composer Jennifer Higdon.
Looking to the East, Maestro Spano conducts Rimsky-Korsakov's classic Scheherazade, the story of the crafty wife of the sultan who spins epic tales with cliffhanger endings for 1,001 nights. Rimsky-Korsakov paints an elaborate picture of Arabian nights — you can almost smell the spices at the bazaar!
