The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has announced its much-anticipated return to Piedmont Park on Wednesday, September 9, at 7:30pm with a free performance of orchestral favorites celebrating Atlanta, “The City in the Forest”. Finan Jones conducts works by such beloved classical composers as Beethoven, Mozart and Vivaldi, among others. Atlanta luminary Mara Davis will serve as emcee for the evening.

The City in the Forest theme evokes the great outdoors, beginning with music from Beethoven’s “Pastorale” Symphony No. 6, followed by Judith Weir’s Forest. Then, the orchestra performs works that lean into the concert’s summer evening aspect, with one of Mozart’s most famous works, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (A Little Night Music). This is followed by Assistant Concertmaster Lauren Roth-Gómez taking the leading role in one of the most recognizable orchestral works ever: “Summer” from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. The concert ends with Smetana’s rolling journey through Bohemia on the Vltava River with his symphonic poem, Die Moldau.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, as seating with a good view of the stage on Oak Hill is first-come, first-served. Admission is free to the public, and tickets are not required. There will also be food trucks with beverages to complete the picnic experience. Family-friendly activities will be hosted by the ASO Education and Community Engagement Department.

The GRAMMY® Award-winning Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, led by Music Director Nathalie Stutzmann, will soon begin its 82nd season, including Family and Holiday programming on October 1.
