Biography
William Dunlop is the newly appointed Second Oboist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. An accomplished orchestral player, he has performed with the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera and at the Grand Teton Music Festival. Mr. Dunlop has performed with the Tanglewood Music Center, Round Top Festival Institute, Taipei Music Academy and Festival, and at the Shostakovich Festival Leipzig 2025, through a collaboration of the Tanglewood Music Center and the Gewandhaus Orchestra's Mendelssohn Academy. William has also served as principal oboe of the New York String Orchestra Seminar.
Mr. Dunlop received his bachelor's degree at The Juilliard School, studying with Elaine Douvas, with additional instruction from Nathan Hughes, Linda Strommen, and Scott Hostetler. His time at Juilliard sparked an interest in chamber music, which he has continued to cultivate, spending two weeks as a fellow at Hidden Valley Festival of Winds. Mr. Dunlop is a graduate of Juilliard Pre-College and previous teachers include Robert Sheena, Yousun Chung, and Terry Keevil.
A native of Miller Place, NY, William became fascinated by music at an early age, beginning his studies with guitar lessons before being introduced to the oboe. Apart from music, he has developed a passion for long-distance running.
