Victor Jacob
Biography
Finalist and 'Special Mention' at the International Besançon Conducting Competition in 2019 and, more recently, being awarded the televised French Music Award (Victoire de la Musique) in the conductor category, Victor Jacob is establishing himself as one of the most promising young conductors of his generation in all repertoires (choral, opera, and symphonic).
In 2023, Victor was appointed Principal Conductor of the first French youth opera orchestra scheme known in France, Apprentissage de l’Orchestre (ADO), i.e. Orchestra Learning, at the Opéra de Paris, a position he will hold until June 2026.
In his native country, Victor has been invited to conduct the Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre Philharmonique de Marseille, Orchestre National de Montpellier, Orchestre National de Lille, Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse, Orchestre de l’Opéra Royal de Versailles, Orchestre de l’Opéra de Rouen, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, Orchestre de Chambre National Aquitaine, Orchestre National d’Ile de France and Orchestre de Picardie. Abroad, he has been the guest conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolivár de Venezuela, Esbjerg Ensemble, Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, Orchestre National de Belgique, as well as the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich (including a performance as part of the Bruckner festival in Linz).
Next season, he will make his debut with Orquestra Sinfόnica do Porto Casa da Música and the ShuZhou orchestra in China, as well as conducting Orchestre de Picardie and Orchestre National d’Avignon-Provence. His close collaboration with Opéra de Versailles continues with three main upcoming engagements: La Vie Parisienne (December 2025), Orphée aux Enfers (December 2026) and a tour of Spain with American soprano Nadine Sierra in January 2027.
Victor has assisted and conducted at the Monte-Carlo Opera House, Rouen Opera and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées for a shortened version of their 2022 production of Rigoletto, as well as at the Montpellier Opera house, where he conducted Un Voyage dans la Lune in December 2024. He also regularly works alongside conductor Nathalie Stutzmann for opera productions at Théâtre de la Monnaie, Opéra de Monte-Carlo and Teatro Regio di Torino.
A former singer, Victor graduated as a conductor from the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied with Sian Edwards, and from the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris. In addition to his studies, he has taken masterclasses with Alain Altinoglu, Marin Alsop, David Zinman, Lawrence Foster, and Bernard Haitink. He was a semi-finalist in the 2021 Donatella Flick Conducting Competition.
