Sasha Tarassenko

 

Biography

Sasha is currently a first-year at Yale University, where she is a flutist of the Yale Symphony Orchestra, majoring in Economics with a certificate in Data Science, and studies with Cindy Meyers, piccolo of the Boston Symphony. In high school, she was involved in the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony, winning concerto competitions for both orchestras in 2023. In 2022, Sasha received first place in the Atlanta Flute Club Competition High School Division.

Past summer programs have included NYO 2 (2023), Boston University Tanglewood Institute (2022), and Eastern Music Festival (2021). In high school, Sasha studied with Christina Smith, principal flute of the Atlanta Symphony. Sasha was featured on NPR's From the Top for her research in diversity, equity, and inclusion in classical music and her involvement in Eastern European folk music.

Outside of music, she is involved in the Yale Undergraduate Consulting Group, spending time with friends and family, and reading novels.
