Netia Jones

Biography

Netia Jones is a director, designer and film-maker in opera, theatre and classical music. She is the director of Lightmap, a mixed media creative studio working in the UK, Europe and the USA.

Recent projects include Macbeth (New Zealand Opera); The Soldier's Tale (San Francisco Symphony); Le nozze di Figaro (Opéra national de Paris); Orphée (English National Opera); Least like the Other (Irish National Opera); Amadigi, Die Zauberflöte (Garsington Opera); The Dark Mirror: Zender’s Winterreise (Barbican Theatre London, Lincoln Centre NYC, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Perth International Festival, National Theatre of Taiwan); Atthis, Kafka Fragments (Royal Opera House); Curlew River (Barbican Theatre London, Lincoln Centre, CalPerformances, Berkeley); A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Aldeburgh Festival); Messiah (Bergen National Opera); Alice in Wonderland (LA Phil, Barbican Theatre); The Outcast (Wien Modern); Words and Music (Happy Days International Beckett Festival); Where the Wild Things Are (LA Phil, Barbican Theatre London, Aldeburgh Festival); Verklärte Nacht (Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, Bergen National Opera); Marco Polo (Bergen National Opera); Les Illuminations (Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Aldeburgh Festival); Before Life and After (Transition, King’s Place).

Together with Lightmap, Netia has created site-specific multimedia performances with large scale external projection mapping, including Everlasting Light at Sizewell nuclear power station, and The Way to the Sea, a performance installation across a whole coastal village (Aldeburgh Festival); Cross Currents at Tilbury Docks; an installation around Messiaen’s Louange à L’Éternité de Jésus at the South Bank Centre, London, and has made film for concerts to the work of Schönberg, Berg, Purcell, Stravinsky, Handel, Bartók, Britten, Blow, Dowland, Berio and Couperin.
