Kingston Johnson is a student at Dekalb School of the Arts (Class of 2029) who began studying double bass at age 11 under the direction of Carissa Walker at Dekalb Arts Academy. Kingston is a member of the school’s Sinfonia Orchestra under the direction of Jonathan Carmack. In the fall of 2025, he was selected to join the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Talent Development Program (TDP), where he currently studies with ASO Associate Principal Bass, Gloria Jones Allgood.
Kingston has served as Principal bass of the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra and Associate Principal of the Dekalb Youth Symphony where he won first prize in its 2026 Concerto Competition. Kingston’s passion for music is fueled by his avid listening to classical works, especially those by Dvořák, Shostakovich, Beethoven, and Bottesini. He looks forward to continuing his musical development and hopes to attend programs such as Interlochen Arts Camp. Kingston is grateful for the support of TDP, which continues to inspire his dedication to excellence on the double bass.
