Jacquelyn Stucker
Biography
A hugely versatile artist, American soprano Jacquelyn Stucker is a graduate of the New England Conservatory with a Doctorate in Musical Arts, and an alumna of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Hailed by The Boston Globe as “glowing,” “incandescent,” and “a singing actress to be reckoned with,” Stucker masters a broad ranging repertoire of concert works, recital, opera, and contemporary music.
In the 2021/22 season, Stucker returns to her alma mater, the Royal Opera House as Karolka Jenůfa and makes her house debut with Festival d'Aix-en-Provence as the title role in L’incoronazione di Poppea. Engagements on the concert platform include Strauss Vier letzte Lieder and Hansel Hänsel und Gretel with Atlanta Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Sir Donald Runnicles; Hanns Eisler’s Deutsche Sinfonie with NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester and Eurydice Orfeo et Eurydice with Washington Concert Opera.
The 2020/21 season saw her debut as Freia in Stefan Herheim’s production of Das Rheingold at Deutsche Oper Berlin as well as several live streamed appearances including her first Strauss Vier letzte Lieder with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Donald Runnicles. She also had invitations from Bayerische Staatsoper for Die Zauberflöte; Boston Lyric Opera for Cleopatra Giulio Cesare; and Deutsche Oper Berlin for Donna Elvira Don Giovanni, Corinna Il Viaggio a Reims and Pamina Die Zauberflöte.
Other recent highlights include exciting house and role debuts as Armida Rinaldo at Glyndebourne; and Tytania A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Gretel Hänsel und Gretel, both at Deutsche Oper Berlin; and Azema in David Alden’s new production of Semiramide at Bayerische Staatsoper and Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. As a Jette Parker Young Artist, highlights at the Royal Opera House included Aphrodite in Henze’s Phaedra, Frasquita in Barrie Kosky’s production of Carmen - broadcast worldwide in March 2018 as part of the ROH Live Cinema Season, Alessandro in Handel’s Berenice, Susanna (Cover) in Le Nozze di Figaro with John Eliot Gardiner conducting, and Prilepa in The Queen of Spades under the baton of Antonio Pappano.
On the concert platform she has performed a solo recital of UK premieres of music by John Harbison, Federico Favali and Mark Kilstofte; Beethoven Missa Solemnis with the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica; Bach Ich habe genug (BWV 82a) with the Royal Opera House Orchestra; Strauss Vier letzte Lieder with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra; Wolf Italienisches Liederbuch; works by Graupner and Bach with the Handel and Haydn Society, and Beethoven “Ah, perfido!” with Grand Harmonie.
Stucker was a finalist in the London Handel Society Solo Competition and in 2018 she was the second-place prize-winner of the inaugural Glyndebourne Opera Cup. She was also a finalist of the Metropolitan Opera National Council’s New England Region auditions; a semi-finalist in the 2016 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, and a National Semi-Finalist in the 2017 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
