Biography
The music of Valencio Jackson Jr is characterized by expressive sonic spaces engaging his performers and audiences alike in communal experiences that comfort, entertain, disquiet, challenge and inspire. His contemporary musical language posits a lyrical challenge to the divide between popular and classical music. It draws influences from a postmodernist approach, American minimalism, impressionism, neo-romanticism, popular idioms, as well as musical elements of his West Indian roots.
Jackson has written a large body of sacred solo and choral music, as well as a growing corpus of chamber music. His music has been presented at many festivals and conferences including Society of Composers, Inc., National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, Music Educators National Conference, International Clarinet Association, the Estate Whim Candlelight Concert Series, as well as in recital at Carnegie Hall.
Jackson is currently completing his DMA in Composition at the University of Georgia. He is currently on the music faculty at Mercer University and has recently relocated from Baltimore MD, where he was on the music faculty at Towson University. He maintains his professional affiliations as a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and ASCAP.
