About the Dance

In this elegant choreography by Guru Soujanya Madhusudan, what begins as a simple children’s game transforms into a magical journey. When their ball goes missing, the children lift one another’s spirits through the story of Rama—Seeta’s capture, Rama and Hanuman’s quest, and the defeat of Ravana. Drawn into the tale, they dance each moment with delicate, rhythmic expression. The piece culminates in a Diwali celebration, with Diyas or lamps and joy symbolizing the eternal triumph of light over darkness. The choreography is set to Reena Esmail’s luminous composition for “Ram tori maya,” brought to life by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
