B. Andrew Lee
Biography
B. Andrew Lee is a violinist from Johns Creek, Georgia. He started his musical studies in Boston at age 7 and fell in love with the violin, later studying with Kyoko Horowitz, an educator at the New England Conservatory. Today, Andrew studies with Curtis Institute of Music alumnus Nadir Khashimov.
As an orchestral musician, Andrew is honored to serve as Concertmaster for the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, the GMEA All-State Full Orchestra (2025, 2026), and the Johns Creek High School Chamber Orchestra.
Andrew has received several top prizes in competitions: recently winning 1st place in the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition; 1st place in the Southern Violin Association Youth Concerto Competition, earning a contemporary violin and a concert with the Agnes Scott Community Orchestra; 1st place in the Georgia Music Teachers Association 10-11 Strings; 2nd place in the Georgia Music Teachers Association’s Instrumental Concerto Competition; 2nd place in the Augusta Symphony Youth Concerto Competition; 1st place in the American Protege International Music Talent Competition, as well as the opportunity to perform in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall; and a cash prize along with a Special Achievement Scholarship Award from the Philadelphia International Music Festival in the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition.
Andrew has learned from and worked with distinguished artists, such in masterclasses with Randall Goosby and Kevin Zhu, as well as in coachings with Benjamin Bowman and Alisa Barston. An avid chamber musician, he has had the honor of performing chamber music with artists of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, such as Mendelssohn’s and Mozart’s String Quintets with Justin Bruns and Madeline Sharp (2024) and Lauren Roth and Brad Ritchie (2025).
In 2025, Andrew was selected for Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Orchestra 2 (NYO2), where he served as Assistant Concertmaster (Family Concert at Usher Hall) and toured internationally to Edinburgh, Scotland. Performing under the direction of Rafael Payare at the Edinburgh International Festival, Andrew shared the stage with world-class soloist Alisa Weilerstein. Andrew is also an alumnus of the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP).
Passionate about sharing the power of music in his community, Andrew also leads the Hope Johns Creek Orchestra in performances at assisted living facilities, churches, and fundraisers for the homeless. He also teaches violin at Medlock Bridge Elementary every week with peers. Aside from violin, Andrew loves to fence, ski, and play pickleball with his friends!
