We are pleased to present to you the 79th season of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
In Nathalie’s second year with us as Music Director, we continue to program the most expressive and evocative repertoire.
Music Director Nathalie Stutzmann brings us three programs in this memorable series featuring symphonies of Prokofiev and Bruckner, as well as Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 featuring the world renowned Maria João Pires making her Symphony Hall debut at long last. Music Director Laureate Robert Spano returns with Stravinsky's masterpiece The Rite of Spring.
Highlights include perennial favorite Carmina Burana featuring the mighty ASO Chorus, plus Bruckner’s powerful and touching Te Deum. Music Director Nathalie Stutzmann presents masterworks by Brahms, Schumann, and Dvořák. And don't miss Gershwin's rousing Rhapsody in Blue, the piece that brought jazz into the classical concert hall.
Experience Verdi's mammoth Requiem conducted by Nathalie Stutzmann with your ASO Chorus, plus a program featuring Concertmaster David Coucheron and Principal Viola Zhenwei Shi performing a sinfonia concertante by Mozart. In addition to traditional treasures like Rachmaninov, Wagner, Prokofiev, and Brahms, you'll also experience modern treasures-in-waiting by John Williams, Gabriela Lena Frank, and Chanda Dancy.
Journey through Dvořák’s New World Symphony and enjoy treasures from Europe and the US along the way. Gaze into space with Holst’s The Planets. Hear symphonies by Prokofiev and Sibelius. Bask in the lustrous voice of soprano Renée Fleming in Strauss' Four Last Songs. Finish the season with Stravinsky’s haunting and radiant Firebird.
The Sunday Series features choral masterpieces including Verdi's Requiem and Orff's Carmina Burana. Plus an all-star cast of guest artists including pianist Michelle Cann and violinist Veronika Eberle.
Vivaldi perfectly captures the flavor of the seasons in his Four Seasons — with ASO Concertmaster, David Coucheron. Plus violinist Joshua Bell joins the orchestra for Bruch's Violin Concerto. And no matter how you celebrate the holiday season, the ASO's annual holiday concerts are a can't miss Atlanta favorite.
