Biography

Henry Dorn (b. Little Rock, AR) is a professional composer and conductor residing in quaint Lansing, Michigan. Each of his in-tune compositions are created with distinct creativity, having been performed by noteworthy ensembles across the country. These performances range from Minnesota Orchestra, the Grammy-winning Harlem Quartet, Aizuri Quartet, the Elysian Trombone Quartet, Argento Ensemble, the Sanctuary Jazz Orchestra, the Dallas Wind Symphony.

With a seasoned musical background, Henry’s passion for sound grows with each new piece he brings to life. Previously, he collaborated as a former assistant director to the Memphis Area Youth Wind Ensemble, and former director to the Nu Chamber Collective. He’s proud to have received multiple awards for his unique style, including:

  • Future of Music Faculty Fellowship recipient from the Inaugural Cleveland Institute of Music 

  • 2010 ASCAP Foundation’s Morton Gould Young Composer Award

  • B.Music, Composition from the University of Memphis

He has studied conducting with Kevin L. Sedatole, Harlan D. Parker, and Kraig Alan Williams, with additional studies with Jerry Junkin, H. Robert Reynolds, Craig Kirchhoff, Steven Davis, Rob Carnochan, and Tonya Mitchell-Spradlin. His composition teachers include Ricardo Lorenz, David Biedenbender, Alexis Bacon, Oscar Bettison, Kamran Ince, and Jack Cooper, and has had additional studies with Kevin Puts, Joel Puckett, Derek Bermel, Aaron Jay Kernis, and Joseph Schwantner.
