About
Some Introductory Thoughts by Peter Höyng, Prof. of German Studies, Emory University
In his opening remarks on Beethoven's Ninth, Professor Peter Höyng will discuss how the composer aimed to inspire something divine and go beyond human earthly limits, thereby reconnecting with his adolescent years in Bonn. Still, from the very beginning, his effort to create a new kind of symphony faced many challenges. Even today, the symphony's reception worldwide is caught between its lofty desire for collective joy and cultural misunderstandings.
Please note this lecture will only take place on Thursday evening, November 13. No tickets are required.
