CRAIG TERRY, conductor and pianist

A native of Tullahoma, Tennessee, pianist Craig Terry has launched an international career performing with some of the world's leading singers and instrumentalists. Currently, Mr. Terry is in his third season as Assistant Conductor at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Previously, he served as Assistant Conductor at the Metropolitan Opera after joining the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. From 2000-2002, he was a coach/pianist with the Houston Grand Opera Studio. Mr. Terry has assisted such notable conductors as James Levine, Sir Andrew Davis, Valery Gergiev, Robert Spano, Jesus Lopez-Cobos, Kent Nagano, Louis Langree, Asher Fisch, Stephen Lord, Steuart Bedford, and Harry Bicket. Additionally, he has served as Assistant Conductor with the Los Angeles Opera, Opera Theater of Saint Louis, Anchorage Opera, and Opera Festival of New Jersey.

Mr. Terry made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2000 and has also performed in Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He has formed active partnerships with Leipzig Gewandhaus principal flautist Stephanie Winker and members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Mr. Terry also performs regularly with tenor Garrett Sorenson and sopranos Barbara Quintiliani and Susanna Phillips under the auspices of the Marilyn Horne Foundation. Last spring he made his conducting debut with the Huntsville, AL Symphony Orchestra leading a production of Lucia di Lammermoor, and immediately following, performed the Ravel Concerto in G Major and Beethoven Choral Fantasy with the Adrian Symphony Orchestra in Adrian, Michigan. Mr. Terry also performed as part of the 2007 Midsummer’s Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin. Future engagements this season include recitals at the Chicago Cultural Center with both soprano Susanna Phillips and mezzo soprano Catherine Wyn-Rogers, as well as recitals in Canada with baritone Hugh Russell.

Mr. Terry received his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Tennessee Technological University, continued his studies at Florida State University, and received the Masters of Music in Piano Performance/Accompanying Degree from the Manhattan School of Music, where he was a student of pianist Warren Jones.
