“Vivaldi’s Four Seasons”
The Adrian Symphony Orchestra
John Dodson, music director/conductor
Janet Sung, violin.
This recording grew out of a series of collaborations
between violinist Janet Sung and ASO Music Director John
Dodson. The two musicians worked together for the first
time with the National Symphony Orchestra of
Bashkortostan in Ufa, Russia where Sung performed
Ravel's Tzigane and Chausson's Poeme. Dodson was so
impressed with the violinist that he invited her to
perform the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the Adrian
Symphony Orchestra the following season. That concert
led to a return engagement a year later, when she
performed Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. Ms. Sung was
invited back to reprise The Four Seasons in concert and
to create this CD. For this recording Sung's performance
of Vivaldi's masterpiece was recorded over a week-long
period. The live performance on December 16, 2006 formed
the primary basis of this CD, with additional music
recorded from three other sessions providing the
remainder. The performance and all recording took place
in Adrian's historic Croswell Opera House.
